  • All applications for admission to the Gary Smorgon House follow Commonwealth Aged Care Act procedures, and no application can be considered without an Aged Care Assessment and a Centrelink Assets Test.
  • All low care residents are required to lodge a bond.
  • If you require high care residency, please contact us directly on 03 8517 5647 so that we can personally attend to your specific situation.

2. Aged Care Assessment Team Assessment
Once you have decided to apply for residence at Gary Smorgon House, you’ll need to arrange for an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) to determine the appropriate level of care you require. The closest ACAS is located at Caulfield Hospital; alternatively, your general practitioner can arrange for such an assessment as well.

3. Centrelink Assets Test
If you are a low care resident, contact your local Centrelink office to request a Centrelink Assets Test. Residential Bonds are excluded from the asset test, meaning that acceptance into GSH may entitle you to additional governmental financial support.

4. Bond
All low care residents are required to lodge a Bond, which will be held in trust by Jewish Care and returned to you when you leave, less a small fee equal to approximately 3.5%. Refundable bonds mean that you can enjoy an enviable lifestyle now, while still providing for your loved ones.

Residents that choose not to have an asset assessment may be asked to pay the maximum bond permitted based on the Aged Care Act. We strongly suggest that you arrange a meeting with your own financial advisor or with Jewish Care’s individual financial consultant to further discuss the best outcome in relation to fees and charges.

5. Additional Forms
You will need to complete additional application forms as well can be sent to you when you make a request for admission.

6. Subject to Room Availability
Your application for admission will be considered in the order in which it is received, subject to room availability.
